McDonalds Depiro in 5th straight win

Published on 9th November 2010

Depiro are riding on the crest of a wave of confidence. And after suffering an opening league defeat by the champions they have now registered five wins in a row to remain among the top echelon. There was never any doubt as to their victory over the young Mtarfa side.
Mtarfa were without Maria Agius but included newcomer Carla Marie Vella. Depiro had the same side which had beaten Luxol a week before.

Referee Robert Darmanin had his debut in a senior ladies match.

Mtarfa made the opening and last hoop of the period but in between Depiro built up a 14-0 run which had Sarah Pace with a triple and baskets by Kaila Agius without really exerting themselves.

The second quarter went along the same lines with Mtarfa making two more hoops earlier this time. Pace added two more triples besides other points and Antoinette Borg had a brace of hoops. at the interval Depiro went 31-8 in front.

Mtarfa were less in the picture after the break as they wilted under the pressure exerted by their adversaries. The latter’s three hoops were interspersed with continuous Depiro points with Borg and Agius the main scorers for a 57-14 score.

The final period was more open with Depiro allowing more space to their opponents. Although making more points than before, Mtarfa still had their defence pierced time and time again as Depiro hiked up another high score.
