Starlites Sports Exp. 15
McDonalds Depiro 30
(6-14, 9-16) abandoned at halftime
The game had a premature ending, when excess humidity made the court surface very slippery, and the officials decided to stop the match, which will be played at a later date.
Starlites did not have Amanda Farrugia and Marie Claire Cilia, with Lara Pisani returning to the side.
Depiro included Maria Bonett and Martina Scicluna in lieu of Justine Xuereb and Christine Sammut, with Edwina Vella still injured.
Marielou Cutajar replied with a brace of hoops for Starlites, after Depiro’s first basket. Depiro then took the game in hand, with Sam Brincat and Francesca Bianco putting in their points, in a 12-0 run, before Ariana Grixti grabbed a basket back for Starlites.
In the second session Depiro did not take long to put in a 7-0 run, as Steffi De Martino began her series of points. Starlites made a brief, positive spell, midway through the period, with an 8-3 run, and a Lindsey Pirotta triple, but De Martino was still putting in her hoops. A three basket spread helped her side to a 30-15 advantage, till the interval.
While this was going on, the two sides were having difficulty to play with ease, with most of them losing their footing, on a shiny surface.
During the halftime break, after consultation with the two coaches, the officials decided to stop the game, to prevent any injuries that might happen on a slippery court.
