Depiro start off with a win in the Women’s shield

In the second match , Pavi Depiro managed to overcome a young Starlites side 57-35 although they had to wait till the second quarter to start building a comfortable lead. Claire Ciantar was out injured for Depiro. Starlites opened the game with a triple from Danielle Agius (165-SF-98) but on trhe other side Samantha Brincat (176-SF-79, agency: Scott Communications) also netted a triple for Depiro. Starlites had a Jean Doughty trey to go in front 8-5 and they managed to keep their lead till then end of the quarter 10-9. Depiro went in front with six consecutive points in the start of the second quarter. Starlites stayed close as they replied with points from Kim Pirotta and Emma Magrin. It was in the last 2 minutes of the session that Depiro had a good 8-0 run with points from Claudia Camilleri (164-F-97) and at half time they were ahead 25-18. In the third quarter, Depiro increased their lead with points from Maria Bonett and Svetlana Micallef. Starlites had another trey from Lindsey Pirotta but Depiro netted another 8-2 run for a 39-25 score. In the last quarter, Depiro’s press saw them stealing a couple of balls in defense as they had two short runs 8-2 and 5-0 to secure the victory on a 57-35 score.
